On Vacation!

Good Morning everyone! I know that I don't normally post this early, but I just wanted to let you know that I will be gone for the weekend, and I can't really blog about one of the best things that I've seen in my life. Yesterday night, I went to this show for 4 hours and I can't wait to tell you about it! Hopefully, I can have some time to work on this concert reveiew on my iPad or if worse comes to worse, I'll have to write it out and then type it from my notes. No matter what I do, I will let you know about this epic concert!

Have a Great weekend!
(PS, this is a good time to read some of my new reviews, or to look at my summer playlist posts!)

Music I've been meaning to buy, but checked out at the Library series Part Eight: Donkey - CSS

I was in the mood for dance music, so I decided to check out Donkey. CSS is coming to Denver soon, and I thought that I would pick up all of their albums before I went to go see them so I could familiarize myself with their work. I heard good things about them, so I can't wait to listen to this album. I have heard that Donkey sounds different from the other albums that CSS has released, but I'll have to find the answer to that when I find the other albums.

Track-By-Track Review
Jager Yoga
This is a good opening; Everything is pretty much synchronized. Then the lyrics come in and everything changes. It went from indie to electronic! What happened? I don't know, but I like it. When that Chorus comes around then things keep getting better! If the opening track sounds this good, then I wonder what the rest of the album sounds like.

Rat is Dead (Rage)
This sounds good so far. The first thing that I've noticed is the guitar line in this song. The bass is mixed somewhat low, so I guess that isn't caryign the melody. But I won't get to technical for the rest of the song. I'm not really paying attention to the lyrics, but I guess they have to do something about ending heartbreak.

Lets Reggae All Night
The opening is great. The bass and drum combo is prefect together. Then the synth and lyrics come in. Great. I'm liking this. This is a good song. Check out that bridge. If I had to think of a dance song, I would probably describe this one.

Give Up
Looks like they are keeping the momentum that that the last song created. That rhythm guitar is great, the matching vocals on the lyrics are great. But the Chorus is where this song really shines. It is one of those chorus that you just want to sing over and over. I've listened to this for a while, but I'm finally getting the lyrics stuck in my head. Hand's down, the best part of this song is the Breakdown, although it sounds a little different it is still good. But the second Chorus is what I'm not enjoying. It just ended!

Left Behind
"Hey! I heard this before!" that is what I first thought when I listened to this album. "I know this!" Most people do because it was all over the place for a while. I'm sure you heard it too. I'm going to be honest. I'm tired of this song. I can't really listen to it when my iPod is on shuffle. I always think "Not this song again" but sometimes, when I really feel like it I will listen to Left Behind.  I wouldn't mind if they played it live at a concert, I would be dancing around anyway.

Beautiful Song
I do think this song is better than Left Behind from a music point of view, but I think that Left Behind is lyrically better. No matter what, I have to listen to it for a while to start to like it; I usually catch on halfway through the song. This is a song that you would dance to anyway because that beat is pretty awesome.

How I became Paranoid
It might just be me, but I don't enjoy this opening at all. But I usually get though it so I can listen to the lyrics. Overall, its an alright song to listen to musically, but this is definably one of those songs that you have to dance to.

This one has a great opening, goes right into the lyrics. This might be a good song. No wait, it is a good song. It is a dance song that you can listen to if you want, or a good song to dance too. Well, the name of the song is Move, so I guess that make sense. Dance to this one!

I Fly
They really break out the guitar on this one! Yes! This song has a Ska feel to it and that is probably why I like it so much. (It would be insane to Skank to this). The lyrics are borderline stalkerish, but who cares? You should be dancing to this anyway. The bridge at 1:55 is great, very Sonic Youth like. And right when that bridge is over, the song picks right back up to where it was! That is great!

Believe Achieve
This is the best song off the album. It is strong, but at the same time it still gives the other songs on this album room in your listening library. It is one of the best dance songs that I know of, and it just sounds good! (even if the lyrics are absurd). However, I forget all about this song when the next one comes on...

Air Painter
I'm not crazy about this song. It is alright, but it isn't my favorite. If I had to put this song someplace, I would put this right after Left Behind. Anyway, it isn't that bad, but I think that this one should have been placed higher up on this album.

Trust me, I will be lisening to this album a whole lot in the next couple of months. But the thing is that Donkey gets kind of slow someplace beteween Left Behind and How I Became Paranoid. They pick it up on Move, but things slow down on I Fly (even though I like that song). One song later, Believe Achieve comes on, but you forget about how about how awesome it is because of Air Painter. Despite the down falls, I think that this is a great album. I can't wait until the concert!

Super Cool Announcement!

Ok, I'm not reviewing an album or posting a playlist this time around, I'm making a pretty big announcement. So please read this, its going to be pretty cool.

This week, I got the chance to collaborate with 3 other people to write a song and preform it in front of a 700 people this week. We did it and everything went successfully. I then realized that I should be doing a little bit more with my musical carer, and I have made the choice to start seriously working on my solo project.

For a while, I thought that I needed a full band to make music, but this week, I started to notice that I could use the Garage Band app on my ipad to full potential. Right now, I don't really need to buy anything to start making music. I have my guitar, my input jack and cable, the Garage Band App, and my Voice. That is it. I'm keeping the sound raw, and I'm not really going to mix it "well" but that is the sound that I want to release anyway.

I just decided to take some action now, so I still have some things to work out, but I know that everything should work out fine.

Music I've been meaning to buy, but checked out at the Library series Part Seven:Lust For Life - Iggy Pop

Yes. I will get this album someday. If you have to hate me for not owning one album, hate me for not having this one. I don't think you can be alive and not hear at least one Iggy Pop song. So as a matter of fact, I'm not really doing a "clean" review, but I haven't heard the album, so my review will be sound anyway.

Want to know what's cool? David Bowie signs backing vocals and plays piano on this album too! See why I like having the actual CD with me? You find all of these cool things inside of it!

Track - By - Track Analysis

Lust For Life
This might be the best opening track in the history of music ever. That isn't an understatement, that is the truth! Everything is right with this song, the drums, the guitar, the bass, the piano thing. The lyrics are good too they probably aren't about anything serious, but hey, who needs lyrics when you can dance?

This is just straight up Rock and Roll right here. Its crunchy, simple rock. we even get a cowbell a minute or so in the song! This is my kind of song.

Some Weird Sin
David Bowie wrote the music to this song. You can just hear the influence right? I don't mind at all because I think he makes things sound better! I guess this song is about being an outcast, and being "stuck on a pin" and not being able to move anywhere (I totally understand that). Despite that, I love this song. What can't you like about this?

The Passenger
If you haven't heard this song, then I'm just going to call you crazy. No seriously, who hasn't heard this song in one shape or another? My favorite band covered it.So I'm sure that you can find a cover of it too. This a fun song for me. You can just sing the chorus all day long, and if you don't want to do that, then try to get that main riff stuck in your head; it's great.

We hit the halfway point, and we also hit the slow song too. Well, it picks back up, but I still will consider this the slow song on the album. Although it is a slow song, it is one of those good slow songs, that don't sound "slow" if you know what I mean. Bowie doesn't really sound like he is singing backing vocals, but he is pretty loud on this album anyway (not like that is a bad thing). Also on David, his cover on this song was "alright" not the best, but not enjoyable. I'd just stick to this song if possible.

Wow, its like the other song didn't end! Well, this is about success, so this song is straight forward. This might even have the best line that I've ever heard "Hooray Success". If you wanted to write a song about success, this is how you do it.

Turn Blue
Well, I think that this is the long song that is also the slow song. I like it though, but like a lot of other long, slow songs it speaks for itself, so it is better if you found it and listened to it for yourself and enjoyed it. (one day, I will explain these long songs!)

Neighborhood Threat
As by the lyrics, this is about a pretty threatening neighborhood. The music is not threatening at all and that is great because it is just more of that simple Rock and Roll that I do enjoy so much.

Fall In Love With Me
I suppose that this is just a simple love song, but it is more than simple because the music is pretty great (listen to that piano thing).

This is a very straight forward album, and I think that I don't really need to explain anything else! I highly recommend this album because it is just so influential and awesome! Go check it out now!

The Summer Playlist Part Two.

Hey everyone! Happy July! I really wanted to post this yesterday, on the first, but I pulled something in my back, so I took the good desision to turn off my computer and relax for a while. A coupple of muscle relaxers later, I'm (somewhat) well rested, but my back is still in pain, so I decided to bring my laptop to me and post the second part of the summer playlist. This time around, I'm posting my most played songs from the last month (thanks Last.Fm!)

Beach House - 10 Mile Stereo. If you want to read my Beach House review, click here. As far as I can tell, this is the offical video. Kinda trippy right?

Extra! Beach House - Silver Soul. This is also an offical video that was approved by the band.I feel like this is a Summer song. I always play this whenever I'm outside.

Warpaint - Krimson. My sources tell me that a *new* Warpaint will be out later this week (I think it will be on the 7th. I'll post the link on my twitter when I see it). Looks like the drummer and guitarist switched places on this one. That's neat, I haven't seen that before. It sounds like this song will never end!

Wild Flag - Romance. (@ The Hi-Dive Seattle 11/12/10) Why isn't the album out yet! Quit giving us singles! Anyway, if you haven't heard it, here you go. (This is the Studio Version. It came out like a week ago.)

PJ Harvey - Hook. This is the best version that I've found.

Wavves - So Bored

Best Coast - Summer Mood. How could this not be on a Summer Playlist?

Death From Above 1979 - Romantic Rights. Apparently this is "super rare" it looks old to me, so that might be true.

Sonic Youth - Star Power (acoustic). They recorded this song for Gossip Girl. I personally hate that show, but at least we get to hear an acoustic version of Star Power!
