The Summer Playlist Part One

Hey everyone! Welcome to the first Friday Five post of my Summer Vacation! I was kind of tired from final exams last week to post, but I thought that this week would be a good time because it is now officially my summer vacation! Expect more reviews and things, so stay tuned to your feed (or however else you get to my blog).

Rollercoaster @ Coachella '06. Carries intro thing was great, why did they just start the song? Anyway, if you really listen at :55 - 1:44 Were they trying to tune this song down? (I doubt it...) but the rest of the song is good.


Sympathy @ Coachella '06. This is the next song. Why did they have to play a sad song after a good one? Oh well (I'm not dissing their choice though). Anyway, looks like they fixed the drum set right in time... (This might be me, but they all look equally pissed while playing this song...)

Friday Five: Rapture Playlist Edition.

Happy Friday everyone! I have swollen tonsils so I can't really do as much as I want to do, but I still made time for the Friday Five this week. This time around, I'm posting some songs from my appropriately titled "Rapture Playlist".

Blondie - Rapture. You know...Just in case the Rapture *Really* happens this weekend...(Yes,I know the whole rap).


Sonic Youth - Kissability Live in Amsterdam 1989. This is an AWESOME set. I want to watch the rest of it if I can find it. I'm like the Church that they are playing in.


Extra! Sonic Youth - Silver Rocket Live in Amsterdam 1989. If you listen carefully, you can hear a lyric change.


Warpaint - Elephants Later with Jools Holland. This aired on the 13th of May, so its somewhat new. I think that this is a better version than the one from Coachella that I posted not too long ago, and I still think that it is better than the album version! (Hey, is Stella dressed like a droog? Anyway, she is killing it on the Drums).


Extra! Warpaint - Undertow Live on Later with Jools Holland. This one was a bummer because it feels a little rushed. If you want a good live version, then just watch the Coachella set (its 2 extra minutes and it has an awesome drum solo!). (P.S. If you like Warpaint, Check out my album review for The Fool. I will have another Warpaint review up soon)

Hidden Bonus Extra! Sonic Youth - Nevermind (What was it Anyway). This song has been in my head all week and I couldn't stop listening to it, so I found the video for the song. If you want to have fun, try to find Sleater Kinney! (no seriouslly, I had no idea that they were in this video) (Hardcore SK fans, is that Carrie's Dog?)

Friday Five: Faithful to your weekend.

Happy Friday my dear readers! I'm happy that it is Friday again, and I'm also happy that I get to share some news regarding the bands in this weeks installment of th Friday Five!

Siouxie and the Banshees - Painted Bird on the Old Gray Whistle Test. This is one of my favorite live performances. Painted Bird is also one of my favorite songs. (Yes, that is Robbert Smith playing guitar)


PJ Harvey - Rid of Me on Jay Leno. Where is her band? That really doesn't matter, this is a great performance. Dont' forget to watch the interview!


Extra! PJ Harvey - Let England Shake. This is from her upcoming album "Let England Shake". I can't wait for this to come out. This might be me, but PJ is starting to sound like Fever Ray (just a little bit).


Mo-Dettes - White Mice.


Kleenex - Hedi's Head. (You didn't hear this from me, but there will be another Kleenex box set coming out soon. Keep an eye out for that. )


Vivian Girls - Double Vision. I also heard that a Vivian girls album may be in development. They did get a new Drummer though.


Classic Sleater Kinney - Start Together. According to the video details, this was filmed in '97 or '98. I just want to say that this a really good bootleg; if it isn't a bootleg, then this is a really high quality video. Just watch the camera change at :35 seconds.


If you dont' want to watch Carrie play guitar, why not watch Portlandia? It will make you laugh, cry and might even make you want to visit Portland. The show premieres the 22nd, but you can watch it here. (Again, you didn't hear this from me).

First Friday Five of the New Year!

Happy New Year! I'm quite excited to post the first Five of the Year! I'm planing to do some fun stuff with the Friday Five this year, but I'm going to plan it as I go.

Matson Jones -  N.E.S.F.T.O. I had to up Colorado for once, so here you go. I still need to get this album. I might get it this weekend. (Colorado People, does anything look famaliar?)


PJ Harvey - Hook. I haven't seen this one before. It must be from PJ's To bring you my Love Era. You could totaly tell from the song structure.


Extra! Me-Jane. I just had to put this one in too.


The Jesus Lizard- Boilermaker. The Jesus Lizard is all types of awesome. Looks like I have to purchace one of their albums sometime sooon.


Sonic Youth - I'm Not There. This is a pretty good Bob Dylan Cover. Any cover from Sonic Youth is good though.


Cat Power - Ichy Head. Hey look, Chan has on a Bob Dylan shirt.


Classic Sleater Kinney! Far Away. I had to dig really deep in my Youtube favorites list (1,000+ songs) to find this one. It was worth it though. According to the video discription this was taped May 21st 2002 and was "SK's 3rd show back from a 2 year hitatus". One Beat was realeased on August 20th 2002, so this must have been a secret show sort of thing!Check out that solo/bridge section.

Make up Monday!

So this weekend/Friday has been a long one, and I'm really sorry that I didn't do "Friday Five" on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. In light of this, I'm posting 6 videos! Hopefully, we can start this week off well.

Metallica - Jump In The Fire. I don't really listen to Metallica, but I do have my times when I really want to listen to the first album. Mika Miko do a good version of this.


Butter 08 - Butter of '69. I just found this video today, While I was watching it, I realized that this was on MTV 2! Sadly, this is probably the last good thing on MTV 2.

The Fantablous Friday Five!

Its Friday again! It's kind of cold here, but I'm still going to do the Friday Five that I always do. I picked the best songs that I found this week, and the ones that have been stuck in my head for the week too. I should be blogging more this week because I have it off, so keep checking back often. I'm planing to do some essays on All ages shows, what I buy at my next CD/Record buying trip and one more that I'm not going to tell you about yet :). Hope you enjoy.

PJ Harvey & John Parish - April. I always pay this song when it is raining for some reason.  If you haven't picked up "A woman walked by" yet, go buy it this weekend. You won't  be disappointed, I know those PJ fans wont. Think of it as a hold-over album for the next PJ album.


Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Diamond Sea. This is one of the best, if not the best Sonic Youth covers I have heard, and you can trust me on this, I love my Sonic Youth. I honestly thought that it would be kind of bad like their cover of Hyperballad, but it wasn't! They did what good covers should do, re-work the song, but keep the spirit of the original.


Extra! Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Pin. This is from "Top of the Pops" and I like it. One of the better live ones I've seen (official video here. I like the animation). By the way, where did Karen's scarf go? (Or, if you want to see some security guards ruin the fun follow this link)


The Vandals - Anarchy Burger.  I wonder if an Anarchy Burger is like a veggie burger. (haha, bad joke)


Drive like Jehu- If it kills you. I love to sing/shout this when I'm mad, or even when I'm not mad. Crazy Bassline. Somewhat long 7:49, but you love good music right?

Classic Sleater Kinney - The Drama That You've Been Craving. This is from '97! Holy crap! That was a long time ago, but it feels like yesterday right? Add on +5 cool points for this being at CBGB's.

Friday Five, It's freaking awesome!

Happy Friday fellow readers! I'm happy that I can share my favorite 5 videos of the week with you all because this week has been insane. Despite that, I found some awesome stuff for all you loyal readers to listen to. If you missed a week, or want to look at my past  Friday Fives, click this link. I don't want you to miss anything. Hole - Berry. Good old classic Hole. Sounds different that their other albums (I think it sounds better...)


Television - Friction. Can someone remind me to buy Marquee moon? I don't know why I don't have it...


Butter 08- It's the Rage. Think of a Chibo Matto, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and Skeleton Key salad. This sounds pretty good, I never heard them before this week.


Dim Stars - Downtown at Dawn. I'm quite the Sonic Youth fan (as you might know) but I didn't know that Thurston, Lee, Richard Hell, Don Flemming, and occasional guitarist Robert Quine, had a super group. Crazy huh? You hear something new every Friday. Love that guitar riff.

The Fantastic Friday Five on Saturday.

Its another great Friday but I'm sorry to say that I have to push the Fantastic Friday Five to Saturday. I've been getting 6 hours of sleep a night and I really need to go to bed now, so I chose to push the Fantastic Friday Five for this Saturday and if I'm lucky I'll even write out the concert review as soon as I get back home. So have fun reading the other parts of my blog until then :)

Free show!

Yeah, so when one show closes, another show opens! Man am I happy to know that there is a free show this Saturday and it has a late start (at like 7 something). And I have no Debate duties to do (thank god!) so I'm down if I get done with my mandatory drivers ed practice and if I have the necessary energy drink!

Yeah, I know that I had to miss the other gig that I got invited to, but I talked to them and It was fine that I missed the gig. This time though I'm not going to miss this for anything. Yeah, I'll take my cell phone along so I can take some pictures, might do some mobile blogging and tweet my response. I might even video tape some of this gig post it on Youtube? It all just really depends.

So I'll try to make it though the week fine and I'll confirm to you guys if I'm going or not in this weeks "Friday Five". See you guys then.

Friday Five: PJ Harvey B-sides.

Ok, I wrote this ahead of time because I'm on "academic vacation"  and I have no internet. This weeks Friday 5 is from one of my favorite artists, PJ Harvey. If you haven't listened to any of her stuff already, I highly encourage you to listen to her. PJ's stuff will blow your mind  and thats a good thing. I didn't want to just post some of her better known stuff because I wanted to expose you all to some "underground" stuff, so I went with her fabulous b-sides instead. Now, PJ hasn't "really' released her b-sides, but thanks to the wonderful internet, and some networking from some friends I have a good amount of PJ Harvey B-sides. To be honest, I haven't even heard all of her b-sides. Coming from this music fan, that's just crazy! I heard that she has b sides for just about every song that she recorded and that is just crazy awesome. Youtube has most of the B-sides that I favorites gone... so thank them and UMG  for taking all of the good unheard music form society. I really can't sum all of PJ's b-sides into 5 videos, so just contact me if you want to know more.  I hope you enjoy these songs/videos.
